Make Better Herbal Teas with Maria R.
In this hour-long workshop, you will learn how to optimize the medicinal qualities in herbal infusions (i.e. tea). Plants contain many different chemicals that give them their flavors and medicinal values. We will taste different teas and learn how to identify some of the main categories of phyto-chemicals (i.e. plant chemicals). We will explore different methods of brewing tea to draw out the properties of different phyto-chemicals considering temperature, steeping time, and vessels (tea pots etc.) To get the most out of this workshop, we recommend you have one herb from each of the four categories below. We will brew the teas and taste them together during the workshop.
1. green tea, black tea, or raspberry leaf
2. mint, chamomile, lemon balm or ginger
3. nettles, oat straw, alfalfa, or horsetail
4. marshmallow root, slippery elm, linden, ground flax seeds, or chia seeds
Other helpful tools to have ready:
A tea kettle or pan to heat water
2 small teapots with lids, or 2 mugs + 2 wide mouth mason jars lids
2 glass mason jars with lids
something to label each tea
